Establishing a shelter

A top priority for Victoria Humane Society is the establishment of a regional rescue and rehabilitation shelter. While we will always rely on a strong and valued network of foster homes, a permanent shelter would help VHS rescue more animals, reduce costs per animal, and provide a central location for social and physical rehabilitation and public adoption services. Our shelter vision is to create a truly “humane” shelter, where animals can co-exist and recover in a more normalized, quiet and less stressful environment, further preparing them for successful adoptions. Victoria Humane Society is currently looking for a property in the Greater Victoria region that is zoned for or can be rezoned to include “animal shelter” as a primary use.

If you would like to contribute major funds or a gift of property towards our future shelter, please contact [email protected].

You are the lifeblood of our work on behalf of animals.

You are the lifeblood of our work on behalf of animals.

As a non-profit organization, the Victoria Humane Society depends entirely on donations from kind-hearted people like you. Every month, we rescue literally dozens of dogs and cats, and sometimes other small animals, many from horrific circumstances such as neglect, starvation and abuse. The associated costs of rescue are significant, from arranging transportation for the animals out of remote communities and into our care, to emergency medical bills to save animals lives, to spay and neuter costs, vaccinations, hospitalizations, medications and on-going food costs and incidentals. Monthly and one-time donors are literally our most critical form of support. We thank you for donating what you can today.
