Ryker – This handsome fellow, who is just shy of his 10th birthday (September 4) is looking for a new place to land.

His name is Ryker, and he’s a Boxer/Pitbull mix. He’s a mellow guy when inside the house and loves to be with you on the couch, bed, or floor. He’s super big on cuddles and is a good boy if left alone while you’re out. He loves laying in the sun, hiking, going on long walks, being chased around the yard, playing with big and small dogs, and, of course, chasing the vacuum. Ryker currently free feeds. He’s the kind of guy that likes to have a nibble on his schedule, which is a bonus. He’s not aggressive or territorial with people or other dogs. He’s up to date on vaccinations, has no current health issues, and was neutered in 2014.

Now, here’s some of the challenges. Ryker is not good at reading the signals from other dogs and can be overbearing and over energetic. He is not aggressive and will back down, but only to reapproach. In fairness to him, this is due to a lack of consistent training and not getting enough outside time or exercise. His current living arrangements were frustrating him. He was spending too much time in a confined area, so when he does get out, he’s overly excited. This results in behaviours that most dogs won’t appreciate. He does calm down but, for an almost 10-year-old, he has a lot of energy. He does pull when on leash (needs training) and will bark and run to the door when someone knocks, but then stops,  because he is too friendly to pull off the guard dog role. He’s also afraid of brooms, this is due to trauma he suffered as a puppy before he was adopted. Ryker needs and deserves a home that can devote the time and energy to help him be the best dog he can be. His senior years need be the best for him. If you feel you have room in your home and heart for Ryker, please fill out an application.
