Volunteer Opportunities

The following is a list of our current volunteering opportunities:

ANIMAL WELFARE PROGRAM:

Most of the animals in our care are in private foster homes, so we are only able to offer dog-walking, cuddling, socialization on a limited basis

CLEANING THE FACILITY (Training is provided for this task)  The facility  is located at 4217 Glanford Avenue and is open most days from 10:00 am until 1:00 p.m.  The facility needs cleaning on a daily basis. Cleaning includes:  floors, bathrooms, vacuuming, washing walls, laundry, etc.

CAT SOCIALIZATION (Training is required for this task) There are a limited number of cats & kittens at the facility who require socialization on a daily basis.  This includes; cuddling, grooming, playing & sitting quietly.  You will be required to attend a training session prior to visiting the cats and kittens.

HOME CHECKS:   Home checks are conducted for applicants prior to adopting an animal.  We provide our home check volunteers with training so they are comfortable with the task before they go out on their own.  Special Note:  We would ask that if you do handle our home checks, that they be done within 1 to 3 days of the request – thus, it might not be the task for you if you are only available to volunteer on weekends.  This is currently on-hold during the Pandemic.

DRIVING & TRANSPORTATION:  We spend many, many hours behind the wheel – transporting animals to foster homes, vet appointments, home visits, delivering supplies, etc. and we are always looking for more hands to help with transportation.

EVENTS: We have a variety of events we host and participate in during the year -which include:  merchandise sales, parades, golf tournaments, displays in the community puppy adoption events, etc.  These events require many volunteers in various roles to run them effectively.  Please NOTE: During the Pandemic we only have a restricted number of Covid-compliant Events.

If any of the above opportunities appeal to you, please fill out the volunteer application form on this site.

You are the lifeblood of our work on behalf of animals.

You are the lifeblood of our work on behalf of animals.

As a non-profit organization, the Victoria Humane Society depends entirely on donations from kind-hearted people like you. Every month, we rescue literally dozens of dogs and cats, and sometimes other small animals, many from horrific circumstances such as neglect, starvation and abuse. The associated costs of rescue are significant, from arranging transportation for the animals out of remote communities and into our care, to emergency medical bills to save animals lives, to spay and neuter costs, vaccinations, hospitalizations, medications and on-going food costs and incidentals. Monthly and one-time donors are literally our most critical form of support. We thank you for donating what you can today.
